WORKSHOP FEE: £12 PER PERSON

Please join me for an afternoon of Appalachian Traditions. Jeni will give a short talk and answer any questions about the Appalachian quilting tradition among her family and in the American south. You will be able to spend time with Jeni’s heritage and new-made quilts for inspiration. Then I will lead you into the basics of sewing patchwork by hand. I’ll be bringing all of the materials with me and this workshop will be a patient and kind one with no pressure. If you’re a more advanced sewist, I’ll be happy to work with your as well. Once we get rolling with some sewing, the second half of the workshop could involve singing a few ballads together as we sew, and a flatfoot dance stretch in the middle to shake all the sewing out. You’ll be able to take home what you sew and a few pieces to be getting along with. If you have sewing scissors (scissors that are sharp and haven’t been used to cut paper), you’d be very welcome to bring them along.

Tea and coffee in the break provided by Rosslyn Court.
Charge £1. With biscuits!

Jeni will be displaying ten quilts made by her family and herself between 1930 and 2018 at the concert. If you'd like to learn more about making patchwork quilts using hand-stitching, why not come to Jeni's patchwork making workshop in the afternoon before the concert. We'll do some hand-sewing (no experience or materials necessary, encouragement and instruction provided), ballad-singing, and flatfoot dancing. Low pressure and big kindness.

Also, stay tuned for upcoming dates in Nashville, Yorkshire, Cumbria, London, and Annapolis (MD).
