Jeni will be appearing with her trio for a country-folk show on Saturday and a children's show on Sunday. She and trio member Billy Hickling (STOMP) will be giving a flatfoot and clogging workshop as well. All times/days to be announced.

The Jeni Hankins Trio are Jeni Hankins, Alfred John Hickling (King Courgette), and Billy Hickling (King Courgette, STOMP). Jeni has been playing with Alfred and Billy, both of York's King Courgette, since their bands shared multi-band bill in York back in 2010. Since then, they've played together throughout Yorkshire, Lancashire, and London. Together, the trio cover guitar, banjo, mandolin, steel guitar, ukulele, slide guitar, harmonica, feet, bones, washboard, drums, and xylophone!

JOURNEY THROUGH THE WONDARIUM WITH RED, YELLOW, AND GREEN

The Jeni Hankins Trio presents a show made specifically for primary school children to introduce them to how they can invent songs on their own anytime, anywhere. A studious hippopotamus, a mountain bear, a trampoline girl, a useful piece of string, and Owl & Rabbit – the xylophone guys – will show kids how songs can come from absolutely nowhere and everywhere. With buckets of rhythm, crazy rhymes, and a boatful of characters from the Wondarium, kids will be dancing and singing all the way through this show!

WORKSHOP
TIME TBA

WORKSHOP FEE: £12 PER PERSON

Please join me for an afternoon of Appalachian Traditions. Jeni will give a short talk and answer any questions about the Appalachian quilting tradition among her family and in the American south. You will be able to spend time with Jeni’s heritage and new-made quilts for inspiration. Then I will lead you into the basics of sewing patchwork by hand. I’ll be bringing all of the materials with me and this workshop will be a patient and kind one with no pressure. If you’re a more advanced sewist, I’ll be happy to work with your as well. Once we get rolling with some sewing, the second half of the workshop could involve singing a few ballads together as we sew, and a flatfoot dance stretch in the middle to shake all the sewing out. You’ll be able to take home what you sew and a few pieces to be getting along with. If you have sewing scissors (scissors that are sharp and haven’t been used to cut paper), you’d be very welcome to bring them along.

Tea and coffee in the break provided by Rosslyn Court.
Charge £1. With biscuits!

Jeni will be displaying quilts made by her family and herself between 1930 and 2018 at the concert. If you'd like to learn more about making patchwork quilts using hand-stitching, why not come to Jeni's patchwork making workshop in the afternoon before the concert. We'll do some hand-sewing (no experience or materials necessary, encouragement and instruction provided), ballad-singing, and flatfoot dancing. Low pressure and big kindness.
